Create your vault
Pick a folder on your Mac. That folder holds every note, atom, and review. This step takes thirty seconds.
A vault is a single folder on your Mac. It holds your notes, the atoms extracted from them, and the history of every review. Everything Atomus knows about you lives there.
Pick a folder
On first launch, Atomus asks where to put the vault. Pick somewhere stable. You can move it later, but fewer surprises that way.
~/Documents/Atomusis the default. Easy to find, easy to back up with Time Machine.- Inside iCloud Drive or Dropbox lets the folder sync across Macs. Atomus doesn't sync for you, the filesystem does. More on this in Sync & backup.
You can change the location later from Settings → Vault. Atomus will move the files for you.
That's all it takes
The vault is just a folder. You can open it in Finder, copy it, back it up, or look inside. Nothing about it is locked away. We dig into what's actually in there on What's inside.
For now, you're ready to capture your first note. Head to Your first review.
